Now Orville is said to be the kind of man who would deny any knowledge of stolen items, and scratch his head wondering "where did that come from" when they were located on his property. Just a good Ol' Boy. Seems some others in the area thought him just a good old boy as well and were more than willing to help him out if someone came up short on a debt, or gave him a hassle. Well, Ron came up short and was told it would be taken care of..And Deputy Metcaff being just one of those good old boys..appears to be one who did just that. Wilson Black Elk, a quiet man, deemed timid by some of his friends and a close friend of Ron's was along for the ride at the wrong time. It appears he witnessed the execution of Ron and was silenced. Now part of the above is speculation, part known fact and part from witness accounts. LAST EVENING THE FOLLOWING WAS RECEIVED: Tomorrow at ten am the Rally will start at Billy Mills Hall and will be broadcast live on KILI Radio. The march will begin from Billy Mills Hall and proceed to the Nebraska line where the bodies were discovered for prayer services and then continue on into White Clay. Today two Nebraska State Trooper patrol cars were parked in front of the Tribal Office. I assume our President invited them over to try and avoid an over reaction on Nebraska's part. The presence of two patrol vehicles was either grossly insensitive to the situation at hand or was meant to be a show of force to let us know the Sheriff's department will have outside support. It seems the deputy sheriff is the only person identified as a potential suspect at this point. Whether of not the deputy did the actual deeds are not the only issues. The law enforcement efforts of Reservation border towns is almost non existent when Native Americans are the victims. The Sheridan County Sheriff said as far as he was concerned they had no unsolved murders but it is common practice for Nebraska law enforcement to bring assault victims from Nebraska to our I.H.S. Hospital for medical treatment then leave them. My brother Lynn, was beaten in Gordon Nebraska, brought back to the Pine Ridge I.H.S. Hospital for treatment then released. In less then one week he began coughing up blood, then died within several hours. The crime occurred in Nebraska but it is difficult to prove the cause of death was caused by the beating because of a lack of resources to conduct proper investigations on the Reservation side. My brother drank heavily. Liver damage caused by excessive drinking as the cause of death was an easy way out for all concerned. Several years ago when I was the police commander for a district I encouraged my officers to swing through White Clay and even check out the side streets. If my officers found someone passed out they would take them home in Pine Ridge or if they lived in an outlying area we would put them up for the night and release them early the next morning. This practice is discouraged by our Department because of liability factors. Since we are out of our jurisdiction we would be out of our service area and would not be covered by our insurance providers. But we didn't have as many deaths in White Clay as we do now. EARLIER TODAY: A lot of media was present in White Clay. I think it should be on the evening news. One reporter was roughed up and his camera was broken, I don't know what that was about. I forgot to mention, the irony of the situation is that the store that was burned down was one of the two stores in White Clay that did not sell alcoholic beverages. Deputy Sheriff Metcalf. He seems to have a reputation for brutality. According to one of the White Clay regulars Metcalf was not thought to be above this kind of activity. Nebraska law enforcement has adopted a non-confrontational posture since only property damage was at issue. They do have video tape of everyone who participated and once everything is sorted out as far as identification is concerned warrants will be issued. I imagine Nebraska state warrants with complementary federal warrants will be issued. I heard Russell Means, Dennis Banks and Clyde Belcourt made their speeches and left before the destruction started. It seems some intoxicated individuals who were already in White Clay started throwing rocks and busting windows. A car drove by and threw the firebombs then continued on into Pine Ridge. I don't know what Nebraska law is concerning Russell, Dennis', and Clyde's culpability in the situation but it is apparent at this point everyone concerned will need access to a legal defense fund and a battery of lawyers. I talked to my uncle and he said when the three hundred marchers left for White Clay the two mile stretch of White Clay road was bumper to bumper three abreast with cars, vans and pick up trucks. He thought about three to five hundred people were already in White Clay before the march began. There were about thirty Nebraska State Patrol cars going into White Clay and about three hundred demonstrators. The store was firebombed after demonstrators busted out windows. Everything is still quiet in White Clay. One store burned to the ground. Protestors left White Clay and have turned around and are going back into White Clay. Nebraska law enforcement is asking for assistance from Pine Ridge Police. LATEST: >Just got back from the Nebraska line.
