There is over 65 MB of data (so far, 7 counties left to do) representing 601,000 parcels of land in SD. This represents every Indian allotment, as well as every homestead, mining claim, timber claim, and every cash sale and for these 59 counties. I edited out all the land owned by the Feds (such as the BIA and the Forest Service) and the state of SD (although a few might have slipped through the cracks). Still in the works are some explanatory pages and hints for searching. Our state-wide search engine is at: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/sd/sdsearch.htm Enter both the name you are searching for and the term "blm" (without the quotes) With Native American names, I have found that the Feds were not too consistent in their indexing. For example I have found "Turning-Bear" as well as "Turning Bear" and "Turningbear". Names such as "A-HI-YA-YE-NA" are sometimes found hyphenated and sometimes not - "AHIYAYENA".
