Copenhagen May 2007
Press Release
Open call for non-monetary DONATIONS for Queer Arts Archive.

Queer Arts Archive is a new project initiated by Art Historian/Visual
Culture-theoretician Mathias Kryger Hansen. Queer Arts Archive may consist
of texts, books, photos, printed matter, video-documentation, digital
documentation etc. The archive will not include any original art works.
This open call for non-monetary DONATIONS for Queer Arts Archive seeks to
gather as much information, documentation, research material and as many
publications about Queer Art and its practitioners and the theories
surrounding this field as possible. Queer Arts Archive will be very grateful
for your donations and for taking part in generating this unique archive.

Queer Arts Archive will work as a research platform and will be installed
for the first time at the 2007 Queer Festival in Copenhagen, July 9th-15th
at which the archive will continue to expand. After this inauguration of
the archive, the intention is to let it travel to new locations and to let
it be a part of future festivals / exhibitions / projects.
The hope is that Queer Arts Archive will make way for a clearer sense of the
queer art practices and theories on a global scale.

The general idea and intention of the archive can partly be found in the
deleuzian concept of the RHIZOME. French philosophers Gilles Deleuze and
Felix Guattari proposes the RHIZOME as a model for knowledge that works
horizontally, spatially and via trans-connections as opposed to vertically,
hierarchically, and with binaries. Thus, the archive will be of a generative
character, constantly changing in size, moving in all directions; backwards,
forwards, to the sides, up and down.

The rhizomatic and generative character of the archive also applies to the
definitions of the terms Queer and Art.
The understanding of what exactly Queer stands for should always be in a
flux. The subjects of queer identities should never be completely defined -
and final definitions should never be made.
The generative character of the archive will allow for this constant
negotiation of the term Queer.
The same goes for the notion of Art. The openness of the archive allows for
a broad definition of Art and may lend from the wider cultural spheres of
theatre, music, film etc.
However, it is important to stress the fact that the content of the archive
will be around Queer identity and Art.

Queer Arts Archive looks forward to your participation.
