Und einen in Taiwan im Juni 1999, auch von Mark begleitet. Sowohl Mark als auch Karen sind in der openspaceworldmap unter China mit allen Kontaktdaten zu finden

Representatives from the government and non-governmental organizations will give a report on the conduct of a first-ever Future Search Conference in China, which will be held at the Dongsi Olympic Community Sports and Culture Center from Tuesday noon until Thursday afternoon, August 15 until 17.What is a Future Search Conference?From August 15 to 17, 2006, sixty-four participants from all walks of life will join big and small group discussions about "Living in Beijing -- Equal rights and development opportunities for new and old citizens." People from government organs, non-governmental organizations, and community-based organizations, as well as lawyers, social workers, informal migrant leaders, rural migrants and other local citizens from four Beijing communities (Dongcheng, Haidian, Chaoyang, Shjingshan) will participate in the two-and-a-half day community dialogue and participatory governance activity known as a "Future Search Conference." At this first-ever Future Search Conference in China, participants deliberate about the past, present and future challenges originating from accelerated rural-urban migration that now face Beijing's communities. This event provides a unique opportunity for all stakeholders to find ways to better integrate rural migrants into urban communities.Who are the organizers of the Future Search Conference?The Future Search Conference is being organized by a preparatory committee consisting of six representatives from the state, private sector and civil society. It is being facilitated by two local non-governmental organizations, "Citizen" and the "Healthy Environment Public Education Promotion Organization". These NGOs receive local government support for the initiative by teaming up with various local government offices in Beijing, as well as technical support from the American Bar Association (ABA), the Chinese Association for NGO Cooperation (CANGO), with funding from the U.S.-China Legal Cooperation Fund. Additional technical support is being provided by the German organizations the Center for International Migration and Development (CIM) and the German Foundation for Participation (Stiftung Mitarbeit), which seconded the German organizational development expert Mr Ludwig Weitz to moderate the Future Search Conference.What are the benefits of a Future Search Conference?Originally developed by the American civil society practitioner Marvin Weisbord, the Future Search Conference mechanism has for many years enabled communities and organizations worldwide to find common ground for joint action. The conference in Beijing is part of the "Participatory Urban Governance Program" (PUGP), a comprehensive good governance initiative being carried out jointly by ABA and CANGO in cooperation with local stakeholders in various Chinese communities. The PUGP develops and provides training for basic level government actors, Chinese NGOs, migrants and other civil society stakeholders from various communities in China. Training emphasizes the principles and mechanisms of public participation in urban governance, with a specific focus on helping Chinese communities develop and adapt new tools for addressing governance issues associated with the integration of rural migrants into urban communities.How can journalists cover the Future Search Conference?Journalists are welcome to interview participants of the Future Search Conference. However, we kindly request that such interviews are being conducted in a non-intrusive fashion, e.g. after the event has come to an end on Thursday, August 17, 2006 at 5 pm. Please also refrain from filming during the conduct of the Future Search Conference, since this may interfere with the work of our participants. A selection of digital pictures of the FSC can be obtained during the press conference on August 18, 2006.
