A firewall does not require much computational power, so make the 486 the firewall. The best thing would be to use Mandrake SNF as your distro, since it is a version of Mandrake 7.2 specificialy modified to be a secure firewall. Another alternative (although not as good) would be to use a recent version of Red Hat (since it is compiled for i386) with Bastille (http://www.bastille-linux.org) for security (it is far more than just a firewall).
