Kenny Guinn. He needed to turn in 128,019 signatures by Tuesday to get the effort on the ballot. I suggested, tongue-in-cheek, that predications were he would only turn in seven signatures, but sarcastically predicted he would get DOUBLE that number. I was wrong. I admit it. According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, Dane turned in...three signatures. Nice job, Tony. ********************************** TSA: Thousands Standing Around...Still In a column published by the Washington Times on Sunday, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) chief James Loy again lauds his department's handling of airline safety, despite all the evidence to the contrary - not the least of which includes a college student over the summer who smuggled and hid various "weapons" onboard planes despite warning the government bureaucrats IN ADVANCE what he was going to do, when he was going to do it and where he was going to do it. "Increased air traffic reflects my belief that the fine job our security screeners do every day has helped restore travelers' confidence in flying since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001," writes Loy in an attempt to minimize the expected public anger with the airport screening procedures for two-year-olds and strip searches of little old grannies this Thanksgiving holiday. Loy's definition of "fine job" and "travelers' confidence" are a bit different from most people, but OK, fine. We have the head of a government bureaucracy defending his turf and reason for existence. Not much surprise there. But I can't help the agitation I feel in reading all the things Loy instructs passengers to do in order to minimize the inconvenience and indignities his department is about to inflict on tens of thousands of air travelers this weekend. "Dress smart," "pack smart," "don't overpack." "Place all metal items IN a carry-on bag before going through the checkpoint." "Take laptops OUT of their cases." "Take coats OFF." I'm surprised he didn't throw in eat your veggies and look both ways before crossing the street. Baa-aaa, go the sheep. Actually, it's worse than that. While reading Loy's condescending "role of passengers" treatise, I couldn't help but recall Clayton Williams' "joke" about rape in the Texas governor's race against Ann Richards back in 1990 when he infamously said, "If it's inevitable, just relax and enjoy it.'' No, Adm. Loy...I won't relax. No Adm. Loy...I won't enjoy it. Happy stinkin' Thanksgivin'. ********************************** They Can Dish It Out, But Sure Can't Take It "Democrats are outraged - outraged! - that Republicans are defending President Bush against critics who have attacked his direction of the War on Terror. After more than a year of pummeling the President's handling of the war with every criticism they could think of, suddenly they are offended that he is mixing politics and foreign policy. ". Where were the Democrats when former Rep. Cynthia McKinney, D-Ga., accused President Bush of knowing that the 9/11 attacks were coming but letting them happen anyway? . Where were the Democrats when Gore Vidal, Noam Chomsky and other kooks accused the President of conspiracies similar to those alleged by McKinney? Where were the Democrats when Sen. Ted Kennedy called the Iraq war a "fraud" and accused Bush of concocting the Iraq war plans in Texas purely for political gain? ".If the Democrats want to clean up political rhetoric regarding the War on Terror, they ought to examine their own camp first." - Manchester Union Leader editorial, 11/25/03 ********************************** The Party of Exclusion "Sen. Joe Lieberman said he had been 'blackballed' by Democrat rivals who kept him out of Tuesday night's presidential debate. Only eight of the nine Democrats seeking to replace George W. Bush were in attendance at the Des Moines, Iowa debate. . . . 'It was not right to deny me an opportunity to be part of today's debate,' Lieberman said while campaigning in Arizona. 'I always thought we Democrats were the party of inclusion, not exclusion.' He continued in his statement, 'And I thought it was strange that Wes Clark, who just became a Democrat six weeks ago, was allowed to effectively blackball a lifelong Democrat like me from this discussion.'" - Talon News, 11/25/03 *************************************** 4.75 cents-per-minute Long Distance * All state-to-state calls in the continental U.S. * Residential or commercial * 6-second billing increments * 24 hours/day * 7 days/week * No access codes * No minimums * No activation fees * Calling Card Rate is 10 cents per minute * No monthly service charge unless your bill is less than $20.00 a month (then a $1.99 service charge will apply) * No need to change your local phone company * No hassles * Easy sign-up. * And a small portion of each bill goes to help continue publishing our FREE Chuck Muth's News & Views e-newsletter. But most of these analysts also said the prescription-drug bill would not undermine relations between them and President Bush, who pushed for its enactment. In fact, many said that despite their opposition to the bill, it would be a political winner for Mr. Bush and the Republican Party if it becomes law." - Washington Times, 11/24/03 ********************************** Teachers Union Finally Going Under Microscope "The IRS has begun auditing the National Education Association, which has allocated millions of dollars to elect pro-education candidates while reporting on tax forms that it does not spend union dues on politics. . . . Mark Levin, president of Landmark Freedom Foundation, hailed the IRS audit and said Monday the NEA 'has diverted tens of millions of dollars in membership dues to influence political campaigns, for which it hasn't paid a wooden nickel in taxes. It appears that the NEA may finally be called to account for its failure to tell the government, and its members, how much it is spending on politics." - Associated Press, 11/25/03 ********************************** PC Claims Another Victim "The girl who tried to start a Caucasian Club at her California high school has abandoned the effort and transferred to another school, driven away, her parents say, by the harassment and name-calling she suffered from other students. Lisa McClelland, 15, left Freedom High School in Oakley and began attending another secondary school in the Liberty Union High School District several weeks ago, said her mother, Debi Neely." - Washington Times, 11/24/03 ********************************** Second Town Mandates Gun Ownership "A tiny hamlet in Kansas has become the second American town to pass a statute requiring that each head of household have a gun and ammunition at home. The City Council of Geuda Springs, with a population of 210 near the Oklahoma border, enacted an ordinance earlier this month that mirrors one that has been in effect in Kennesaw, Ga., since March 1982. FBI statistics show that crime in Kennesaw plummeted after the gun law was passed and remains low today, even though the city's population has skyrocketed during the past two decades." - Washington Times, 11/25/03 ********************************** Queer Eye for the Conservative Guy "Homosexuals are sexual deviates who have chosen to shake their fists in the face of God and decency and pursue their lusts in an abnormal fashion. They should not be recognized as 'normal' in any sense of the word. Since you insist on standing FOR this homosexual travesty, we want to be removed from your mailing list and will no longer support you in any way shape or form. "We will definitely tell everyone in our circles that you are not the kind of individual that any Christian should support!! Want to know God's stance on homosexuality? Ever hear of Sodom in the old testament? Maybe you need to spend more time focusing on what is REALLY happening in this country........the fall of Rome occurred because of governmental corruption and sexual deviation just like this. READ YOUR HISTORY BOOKS!!" - Former News & Views readers Ken and Judy Bower *************************************** Affordable Campaign Websites!
