It was a Border tune, and a ballad / song, long before the modern form of it was adapted (bodged, in fact) for the GHB. Using the modern GHB pipe march as a basis would be the worst possible option. Its a good tune which doesn't have to be linked to funerals, though I appreciate it often is. It comes in a category a bit like Noble Squire Dacre (to mention just one) in that respect. > I think NPS publications should > include information on the choice of version as footnotes on the page, Not practical in terms of economic layout. > rather than hidden away at the back of the book. Some of our members do not appreciate lots of (to them) irrelevant verbiage cluttering up their tunes. We keep the verbiage at the back so that those who are interested can seek it out. > I like publications > which indicate the history of the tune I am playing. I agree. Some do, some don't - opinion is divided on this. > Although this publication is on general release, I believe its primary > purpose is to assist players of the Northumbrian Smallpipes, > particularly Society members.
