 Hi Rose,

I don't have any easy answers for you, but just want to offer
a suggestion or two.

When you mention having "searched every database" I am
speculating that you might be referring to the files in the
Members Only Area on the GANS website,
http://www.chebucto.ns.ca/Recreation/GANS/

Apologies if I'm off base here -- possibly you meant some
other databases. Note that this list, nsroots, is not
exclusively a GANS message list.

Just to cover some other bases: the Nova
Scotia Historical Vital Statistics database, at

https://www.novascotiagenealogy.com/

is certainly worth searching carefully; you may already have
done this of course. With one of the names being McDonald the
searching is not easy. I poked around on the NSHVS site a bit
myself this morning and haven't turned up anything relevant to
your search, but more patient searching might pay off.

I would also recommend trying to find the family in the
censuses, say 1891, 1901, and 1911. This might provide helpful
information -- one never can tell what's going to turn up. For
the 1891 census here's one place to begin:

http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/databases/census-1891/index-e.html

and for 1901 and 1911 the best bet is probably the Automated
Genealogy site:

http://automatedgenealogy.com/

It may be worth supplying the date and location of Mary
McDonald's marriage; this might provide a clue for some
of the ever resourceful listers here.

Be sure also to browse around on the wonderful website of
Nova Scotia Archives and Records Management, at

http://www.gov.ns.ca/nsarm/

If it does come to searching church records, I think that is
more difficult without a visit to Halifax. Again, other
listers may have useful advice on this.

 Regards,
 John Cordes
 Halifax
