Hi All,
I am looking for information about a family named Hamilton that lived in Nova Scotia & USA. Here is what I know: William Hamilton born, 28 Jan 1867, Halifax, Halifax County, Nova Scotia, died 25 Apr 1937, Halifax, Halifax County, Nova Scotia. Living with son Arthur at 4 Windsor Terrace, Halifax, Nova Scotia when he died. His father was Robert Hamilton, who may have been a soldier during the Civil War, and his mother was Mary (last name not known). William married Mary Rebecca Nickerson, 16 Dec, 1896, Pennant, Halifax County. - Item can be found in Registration Year: 1896 - Book: 1819 - Page: 112 - Number: 518 - www.novascotiagenealogy.com I have found all the necessary Nickerson background information. William and Mary have three children as of the 1911 census: Ariel Wilbert Hamilton, born 13 June, 1900, Halifax, Harold Hamilton, born Aug 1901, and Arthur Victor William Hamilton, born Aug 1902, Sambro. The 1901 census shows William, Mary & Ariel living in Sambro. Ariel marries Cora Misner (daughter of Herbert & Susan Misner, of Black Point) in Ontario. The transcribed record follows: 03926-1926 (Leeds Co) Ariel Wilbert HAMILTON, 25, Chauffeur, Halifax NS, 90 O'Connor St - Ottawa, s/o William HAMILTON (b. Halifax NS) & Mary Rebecca HICKMAN, married Cora Mae MISNER, 21, Stenographer, Halifax, Y.W.C. Assn, d/o Herbert C. MISNER (b. Halifax NS) & Susie L. BOUTILIER, witn: Frank W. SCOTT, 2222 N. Mascher St. - Philadelphia, Violet SCOTT, Prescott, 8 June 1926 at Prescott. Both Bob Hegerich and I agree that the HICKMAN name is incorrect, and should be Nickerson, according to NSVHS records of marriage & death. Ariel & Cora had a son William Roy, born 1926 in New York (Cora was a nurse in New York, and the family lived in Brooklyn, at 636 Prospect Place.) Two of Cora's sisters were nurses in New York as well. Cora and Ariel both became naturalized citizens of the USA, and Cora travelled home to Nova Scotia four times from 1930 to 1945. She had her son William with on one of the voyages. William Roy is now living in Halifax, at age 84. His daughter contacted me from New York inquiring about the family.
