RANKIN, Ernest Earl - 87, 70-2nd Ave., Florence, Cape Breton County, died
March 28, 1994, at home. Born at Caribou Gold Mines, Halifax County, he was a
son of the late Allan and Mable (Winters) Rankin. Before moving to Cape Breton
he was a resident of Eureka, Pictou County. He was a member of Wilson United
Church, Florence and a veteran of the Second World War. He was a former member
of the Florence Volunteer Fire Department, Florence Royal Canadian Legion,
Orange Lodge, and Progressive Conservative Party of Nova Scotia. He was an
avid fisherman in the Middle River area and retired from Princess Colliery in
1967. He is survived by his wife, the former Evelyn Marks; two daughters,
Sandra (Mrs. Alex Boutilier), Florence; Brenda Devoe, North Sydney; six
grandchildren; sister, Jean Rankin, Stellarton. He was predeceased by four
brothers, Alvin, Stanley, William, Alden; sister, Beatrice. There will be no
visitation by request. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. today in Fillmore and
Whitman Funeral Home Chapel, Rev. V. MacLeod officiating. Burial will be in
Middle River Cemetery. Donations may be made to any charity.
