Hello Listers,

As promised I was over to speak with my MLA today, Percy Paris, who is current minister for Heritage. I printed out most of the emails concerning the parking situation for him and expressed my opinion that from a tourism point of view (Routes to your Roots) it's not an ideal situation. (And I'd like to be able to go in and park once in a while as well!)

He made a call and got the stats on the parking ratio and he said that from the Ministers perspective he was not happy. He has staff looking into the whys and wherefores of the whole deal and will get back to me.

While I was there I also gave him the SSGS newsletter that I got from Joan Parks-Hubley at the talk given by Chris Young at the Fisheries Museum last Friday (Thanks Chris, great talk!). I explained to him the difficulty that the SSGS was having, about getting an explanation on why they were turned down for a summer student grant. I told him that it was just something that I had heard about and didn't have all the info, and that the society was looking for a specific explanation so they could plan for the future. He is following up on that as well.

He thanked me for bringing the group's concerns to him, because he can't do anything about it if he doesn't know about it.

So, Percy at least seemed interested (from looking at his book shelves he is quite interested in history already), we shall see what come of it.
