Pat,I believe there were some other William and Mary Doherty in the 1920 census, including some in Ohio. Its possible they were in the US but had not yet made it to Cincinnati by 1920. You might want to search a little further afield.

William d in Cincinnati in1924 and death cert. shows informant was Mary E. Crawford. His wife Mary d in 1925 but haven't been able to confirm her death there.
