[nsroots] INDU meeting on long-form Census questionnaire

Greetings All.

Contrary to my expectations, the INDU Committee meeting held today on the
issue of the mandatory long-form Census questionnaire was not broadcast by
CPAC. (This proves the old adage about what happens when one 'assumes'
something) It was however, broadcast on the government ParlVu website as
expected. Unfortunately, the bandwidth available to me in the RV park in
which I am staying was insufficient to allow my viewing the proceedings.

On contacting the people at CPAC I was advised that the proceedings of the
meeting will be televised on CPAC, starting at 1:30 pm Ottawa time, Sunday,
29 August 2010. CPAC further advised the following:

"MPs are continuing to study a plan to change Canada's long-form census.
Several witnesses are appearing to discuss the controversial proposal, which
would make the long form voluntary but sent to more homes. The first panel
features Mel Cappe, president of the Institute for Research in Public
Policy, Ian McKinnon, chair of the National Statistics Council, Joseph Lam,
vice-president of the Canada First Community Organization, James Turk and
Michael Ornstein from the Canadian Association of University Teachers,
Climent Chartier, president of the Mitis National Council, and farmer James
Henderson."
