Indeed. How about ./../../../xyzzy.tex ? (No need to answer, I can test
if I feel so inclined.)
But it might be interesting to know what the default is. I hunted around
in some Lua files for a while, but my lua-fu is too weak to track the
default down.
Just in case you dive into this (lua) .. it's a mix of kpse / tds
compatibility driven by settings in the configuration file and paths
uses in context as part of project structure and such (most dates back
from mkii). Images have also some lookup logic.
