Regardless of the capabilities (to be clear, I'm not making a judgement on whether Samba _can_ properly provide directory service), I like to look at it in terms of potential impact to support.
I would prefer to not have to say "Oh, we don't run Microsoft's implementation of Active Directory; it's Samba running on Linux" while on the phone with a software vendor troubleshooting something. Depends on what you're trying to do. :) I'd *much* rather run a domain controller on server core than under Samba on Linux. Same thing with file/print, and you can run IIS on core. Hey all, Just had to ask this one. I'm really curious because I've heard the argument, well, if you're going to run server Core, why not just use linux? What can you say to make the conversation worthwhile and not just arguing preferences? Or is that really what it's all about these days? Iv'e been wondering what the people who have been on both sides might say.
