Around 7 PM I walked around the swan River preserve in east Patchogue. Small birds were absent aside from chirping cardinals and the always present song birds.
A bit of pond watching turned up some mallards, the resident swan (still with a fishing hook / line attached) and great blue heron. Somewhat unexpected was a solitary sandpiper (though I've been seeing them there regularly) and a green heron working the inside of the pond. Also spotted was a sizeable snapping turtle beneath the bridge. - Luke -- NYSbirds-L List Info: http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsWELCOME http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsRULES http://www.NortheastBirding.com/NYSbirdsSubscribeConfigurationLeave.htm ARCHIVES: 1) http://www.mail-archive.com/nysbirds-l@cornell.edu/maillist.html 2) http://www.surfbirds.com/birdingmail/Group/NYSBirds-L 3) http://birdingonthe.net/mailinglists/NYSB.html Please submit your observations to eBird: http://ebird.org/content/ebird/ --
