OBS: Robert DeCandido, PhD, Deborah Allen, m.ob. on a bird walk starting from 
Strawberry Fields at 9am with some pre-walk birding there from 8-9am.

Highlights: Six species of Wood Warblers including Yellow-breasted Chat. Small 
flocks of southbound birds: American Robins, unidentified small passerine, and 
skeins of Canada Geese overhead. Flyover raptors including Sharp-shinned Hawk, 
Cooper's Hawk, American Kestrel, Red-tailed Hawk, and Turkey Vulture.

Canada Goose - 7 at the Upper Lobe, small southbound skeins overhead
Wood Duck - 4 (2 males & 2 females at Turtle Pond - Jeff Ward)
Gadwall - 6 Reservoir - before walk (Deb)
Mallard - at least 15 Turtle Pond, others at the Reservoir
Northern Shoveler - pair at Turtle Pond, others at the Reservoir
Bufflehead - 2 males SE corner of Reservoir before walk (Deb)
Ruddy Duck - around 180 Reservoir before walk (Deb)
Mourning Dove - most locations
American Coot - 2 SW Reservoir after lunch  (Mayra Cruz & Deb)
Ring-billed Gull - flyovers
Herring Gull - flyovers
Great Black-backed Gull - flyover
Double-crested Cormorant - Turtle Pond
Turkey Vulture - over NW Reservoir after lunch (Mayra Cruz & Deb)
Sharp-shinned Hawk - flyover Strawberry Fields
Cooper's Hawk - 2 (flyover Strawberry Fields, flyover in rapid descent 
Shakespeare Garden)
Red-tailed Hawk - perched Strawberry Fields (Mayra Cruz) & flyovers
Red-bellied Woodpecker - residents
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker - 6
Downy Woodpecker - residents
Northern Flicker - 2 Sparrow Rock
American Kestrel - male flyover Strawberry Fields
Eastern Phoebe - Locust Grove
Blue-headed Vireo - Strawberry Fields
American Crow - 2 flyovers calling Great Lawn
Blue Jay - most locations
Black-capped Chickadee - 10 to 15
Tufted Titmouse - around 30
Red-breasted Nuthatch - 6 to 8 (Shakespeare Garden, Great Lawn, & the Pinetum)
White-breasted Nuthatch - 5 or 6 - probably under-counted
Brown Creeper - 1 Shakespeare Garden (Jeff Ward)
Winter Wren - Strawberry Fields
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - at least 30
Hermit Thrush - 5
American Robin - small flocks flying south, still plenty around
Gray Catbird - Upper Lobe
Northern Mockingbird - Shakespeare Garden in crab apple
Cedar Waxwing - 15 (some Sparrow Rock in hawthorn, some in Amur cork a bit 
south)
House Finch - Strawberry Fields
American Goldfinch - 3 (2 Tupelo Field, 1 Strawberry Fields)
Nashville Warbler - Shakespeare Garden (thanks to a tweet from Junko Suzuki)
Northern Parula - 4 (Tom Ahlf & Jeff Ward)
Black-throated Blue Warbler - 2 (male Pinetum & male Shakespeare Garden - both 
Jeff Ward)
Yellow-rumped Warbler - around 30 - Strawberry Fields the best location today
Black-throated Green Warbler - Belvedere Castle (Jeff Ward)
Yellow-breasted Chat - NW Great Lawn
Eastern Towhee - 2 Maintenance Field
Chipping Sparrow - 30-40 Sparrow Rock and Great Lawn
Field Sparrow - Sparrow Rock (Jeff Ward)

Swamp Sparrow - Strawberry Fields
White-throated Sparrow - many

Brown-headed Cowbird - male Sparrow Rock (Sally Kopstein)


Cathy Weiner tweeted a video of the young Red-headed Woodpecker working on a 
tree cavity. 

David Barrett reported a good raptor flight over Central Park today including 
Northern Harrier, Bald Eagles, and many Sharp-shinned Hawks via twitter.
