Greetings: This is the Syracuse Rare Bird Alert for the week of August 07, 2017.
Highlights--------------LEAST BITTERNSNOWY EGRETBLACK-CROWNED 
NIGHT-HERONWILSON’S PHALAROPELITTLE GULLCOMMON NIGHTHAWKRED-HEADED 
WOODPECKEROLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHERHENSLOW’S SPARROW

Montezuma National Wildlife Complex (MNWC) and Montezuma Wetlands Complex 
(MWC)------------
     15 species of Shorebirds were reported at the complex this week. 
Highlights were WILSON’S PHALAROPE and BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER.     8/8: 11 
species of shorebirds including the WILSON’S PHALAROPE were seen in 
Knox-Marsellus Marsh.     8/12: A SNOWY EGRET was found at Knox-Marsellus 
Marsh. One adult and two juvenile RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were again seen at the 
end of Mays Point road. A LEAST BITTERN was seen along the Wildlife Drive.     
8/13: An ACADIAN FLYCATCHER was still being seen at Carncross Road near the 
parking area.

Away from Montezuma Shorebirds are being reported in areas such as Waters road 
north of Rt. 80 east of Fabius, Sandy Island State Park and Jamesville Beach. 
Ten species were reported this week.     Onondaga County------------
     8/8: The HENSLOW’S SPARROW reported last week at Green Lakes State Park 
was again heard and has been reported through the 13th.     8/11:An adult and a 
juvenile BLACK-CROWNED NIGHT-HERON were seen near the Hiawatha Boulevard Bridge 
near Destiny Mall in Syracuse.

Oswego County------------
     8/8: A BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER was seen at Oswego Harbor.

Madison county------------
     8/13: An OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER was spotted on Ditchbank Road north of 
Chittenango.

Oneida County------------
     8/7: The last report of the LITTLE GULL at Sylvan Beach.     8/8: 4 
RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS were seen at the north end of Forest Ave. at Verona 
Beach State Park. Two were seen the next day.
