Have you tried pulling out all the RAM in order to see if it will give 
you the breaking glass sound?

PRAM battery may be dead. The one I was helping out with last night 
has an
ATi Card, plus a flashed Matrox Millennium 2, which is known to work 
as I
had it in my 9500MP till I pulled it and sold it on.
