Hello Rob,

I still have a 9600 MP running on my home network. I have run 9.1 on it and
now with the help of XPostfacto am running 10.1 (Puma) on it. Good old
workhorse.

Here are a couple things you didn't mention that you might try.

1) If you haven't replaced the battery, do so. Then reset the PRAM. As it
boots hold down the <Commnad-Shift-P-R> keys. You should here the same
start-up chime each time it resets the PRAM, let the Mac reset two or three
times (so you here 3 or 4 chimes total.) If you have TechTool available use it
to reser the PRAM as it dose a better job then other means.

2 ) I don't know what system you are using but the newer ones (9 or better) do
not like memory to be interleaved. Memory will want to interleave when the
memory is of the same type/size and paired up. You want to intentionally make
sure that they are "not interleaved."

3) Make sure you are waiting long enough for the 9600 to boot. It checks each
memory chip at startup and with 10 or 12 chips it takes longer then other Macs
to boot.

Good luck
