Especially with a Beige, and possibly also with a pre-Beige, running X, is is often necessary to get at least 5 chimes (four wouldn't do) during a PRAM reset in order to really clean it out. On the Beige, one or more EIDE channels can be lost, and others can be screwed up. Discovered on pre-Beta X, and perhaps carried on to early Golden versions as well. My "drill" when real weirdness happens is to get 10 chimes during a PRAM reset, and then let the machine run free. Based upon the "law of averages", it takes 7.5 chimes to make absolutely sure the PRAM is clean ;-) -- Old Mac MP is sponsored by <http://lowendmac.com/> Support Low End Mac <http://lowendmac.com/lists/support.html> Old Mac MP list info: <http://lowendmac.com/lists/oldmacmp.html> --> AOL users, remove "mailto:" Send list messages to: <mailto:OldMacMP@mail.maclaunch.com> To unsubscribe, email: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> For digest mode, email: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Subscription questions: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Archive: <http://www.mail-archive.com/oldmacmp%40mail.maclaunch.com/> iPod Accessories for Less at 1-800-iPOD.COM Fast Delivery, Low Price, Good Deal www.1800ipod.com
