Possibly, but depending on your target you may gain more by improving
the flash algorithm, as has been done for stellaris and stm32.

You also need to get my patches, since they're not merged yet. I
posted instructions some days ago but here they are again:

(from the cloned repo)
git fetch http://openocd.zylin.com/openocd refs/changes/35/535/3 &&
git checkout FETCH_HEAD

This command is easily produced from gerrit by clicking on one of my
patches, repeatedly following the Needed-By link until you arrive at
the latest patch in the series (which has no Needed-By link),
selecting 'checkout' in the checkout|pull|cherry-pick|patch selector
box under the Download label and copying the text below it.

Yes, the configure switch is --enable-ftdi. It requires libusb-1.0.

There are interface configuration file variants for all supported
ft2232 dongles in the interfaces/ftdi subdirectory. I have only tested
olimex-arm-usb-ocd-h.cfg and jtagkey.cfg myself. The luminary files
are known to be slightly wrong, details on list. Patch will be updated
shortly.
