Very much appreciated. I certainly think that this is the only
approach that makes sense.

In order to get testing feedback from your existing work I suggest
that you package it up in a way that is convenient for people to
test. You can of course continue to push commits to gerrit based on
the ones you have already pushed - nothing wrong at all with that -
as long as testers are able to get the code that way.
