I think Bjørn's answer is the smart one.

If you feel very strongly that you need to be
able to update at one node and instantly
query at another, then you have a strong
argument for setting the parameter to zero.

If it is just a 'warm and fuzzy' (a bit like the
issue of NOCACHE sequences) then set it
to zero, then watch out for indications that
the performance is suffering as a consequence.

It's certainly something I want to experiment
with on 2-node and around 8-node RAC, to
measure the impact of zero, 5 - 25, and the
default.  (My hunch is that a small setting
will be more than adequate for most people,
and eliminate the worst excesses of a zero
setting - but the key word there is HUNCH).
