Hi Dennis, > Darren thanks for your detailed replies > > how do you like the MPP21 ? > and also the oven you mention
They both do the job ok, I bought them about 10 years ago, I'm not sure if there might be something better now, they didn't come cheap. But have paid for themselves easily. > what about lead-free, are you going there? No, not as yet. > will the oven handle it ? I think so, but that is untested. > what about all of our irons? will they need to be replaced? Don't expect so, most should go the extra 20° odd required. > there are paste dispensers that eliminate the need for a stencil > > X/Y motion tables with a time/pressure dot dispenser moving about > > $10-20K i think USD Yeah, one of these might be great, if someone could show me it doing the job well, I would buy it. > but i have read that better than time/pressure (for releasing > a precise amount of paste less dependent on temperature, > humidity and paste formulation) is a type of a screw feeder > right above the needle Yes, again, I have yet to see one in real life, if the screw type feeder can control the paste flow well, I would get one also. The last trade show the guy said yeah, it will do it and I said show me and I will buy one... still not seen one in action. > also have you seen or ever used those tiny 'standard' stencils > that have just one chip on them ? (intended for rework) I have thought about this approach also, it would have to save a lot of time, to set the one chip up, screen it and clean up, and would be no good unless the board was bear, I expect. Also if you had two of these chips close to each other, you would still be stuck. > have you seen > http://www.stencilsunlimited.com/ > i haven't tried them No, I haven't tried them, but I have been looking to make frameless stencils for years, only the cost of the frame is really not all that much in the overall cost. And as I said, the lead time is also a lot of my problem, clients only give me a day or two notice often. I have even thought about purchasing a laser, and doing the stencil manufacturing in house. I'm sure I could get a lot of stencil work here in Melbourne if I offered quick turn.
