Dear Friends of Parlortricks

I'm very happy to pass along the enclosed letter from my dear friend and
collaborator Mary Beck about her book project "Areas of Preservation: A
Geological Journey".

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/727694084/areas-of-preservation-a-geological-journey

Mary is launching a Kickstarter.com project to raise funds from supporters far
and near, in amounts larger and smaller! Kickstarter.com is a 'crowd-funding'
portal which allows artists and other creative types to present a prospectus
for consideration to the larger world.

As she notes below, she has engaged my design services for this work, and I
very much hope to see the book published by early next year.

Please support the publication of "Areas of Preservation: A Geological
Journey", Mary's photographs and recollections of some of our most remote and
beautiful natural places. See http://marybeck.com for more images!

Please visit the project page and pledge an amount of any size (bigger the
better, of course!)!

Please forward this note to your networks of people who might support this
project with a donation of $5-to-$500, . The success of a crowdfunded project
depends entirely on the strength of the network!!

Mary will have a Facebook page for the project soon, please post to your
profile when you can!

Many thanks!!

peter

> Hope everyone has had a nice summer!

> For close to 25 years, I have been on a journey to document some of our
> nation's most pristine areas of preservation. Armed with minimal photo
> equipment and traveling mostly alone, I have had the opportunity to walk out
> into the desert, swim in crystal-clear mountain lakes, paddle through swamps,
> and camp under starry nights. Some of these experiences were made possible
> with volunteer assignments through the National Park & Forest Services.
> Samples of this body of work can be viewed on my website:

>
> Although this work has been shown in numerous galleries over the years, I
> feel that a book is the best form in which to present the images as a
> collection. The proposed title Areas of Preservation: A Geological Journey
> will explore the diversity of landscapes in the United States. Short text
> will accompany each image telling the history of how that landscape came to
> be formed.
>
> I have currently launched this project on Amazon's Kickstarter Program in an
> effort to raise funds to help push the project into it's next phase; the
> actual printing and binding of the book of which I hope to use a local
> printer. I have already engaged the services of Peter Fraterdeus of

> the layout of the book.

> Years ago when I ran the LostNation Gallery out of Chicago, I thoroughly
