I didn't know that any Xray machines have glass lenses; I know that
medical Xray machines use apertures and collimators to direct the
beam.

I think this lens is for the receiving end of the x-rays, before they hit the film.

An almost-existential question: If there's no sharp focus, can there be bokeh?

It's like wine. To begin with, you appreciate its bouquet. After a bottle or two, you appreciate the world's general bokeh. There's no need for any part of your mind to be particularly focused. :-)
