CB: > Ahhaa, so JFK was a good Dem afterall; he was against > "businessmen" in his heart....
Jim D: Saying stuff like "My father always told me that all businessmen were sons-of-bitches, but I never believed it till now" could come from the fact that JFK was very rich (while his father was both a son of a bitch and a businessman). Rich people can talk about their peers that way without getting attacked or ignored the way plebes would be. It's also possible that in this statement "old money" (JFK) is sneering at "new money" (those who get their hands dirty, firing employees, producing shoddy products, etc., rather than playing with stocks and bonds and clipping coupons). ^^^^^ CB: Yeah, Jack was born with a silver spoon in his mouth bought with his father's filthy lucre; so he was expressing naivete, though he was pretty drole ( I was being sarcastic; but straightfaced, no smiley face) ^^^^^ also, aren't "good Democrats" pro-business? The DP is not an anti-business party, and never has been, despite what the Chamber of Commerce says. ^^^^ CB; Well, sarcasm; I'd say "good Democrats" are like FDR and LBJ, who partially broke from a pro-business agenda with the New Deal and Great Society/War on Poverty. How about "lesser evil Democrats" (smile) (Jim D and Doug are "good Yalies", rarities, as we know) _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list pen-l@lists.csuchico.edu https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l
