One of our GPs is named Pooka. Depending on your source, a pooka can be neutral or downright evil. Generally, though, they are spirits. Our Pooka is named after the Celtic monster that lures people onto its back and drowns them. Hey, we liked the name, we don't expect Pook to be drowning us any time soon. It just fit with the theme started when we named our first piggie Sasquatch. Bugbear, Sas's other girl, is named after a kind of goblin. And Grendel of course is named after the monster from Beowulf. Hopefully we'll have one or two girls for Grendel's harem before too long--the big contending names are Taniwah (a Maori dragon), Banshee (a Celtic spirit of a dead woman whose cry announces that someone else will die), and Poppet (something like a voodoo doll). Ain't we a cheery bunch?! :) I like doing theme names. The rats are named for flowers (Chrysanthemum, Foxglove, and Belladonna). The rabbits and dogs don't really follow any theme, though. I just named them what seemed appropriate, except for Tycho, who was already named. And the cat, well since there's one of them I guess he's his own theme (Poco--small, in Spanish).
