The NFL is moving to squash a marketing campaign by 'Captain Morgan'. Apparently, the idea behind the 'Captain Morgan's ad campaign is to have NFL players strike a pose as 'Captain Morgan' from the rum company. All you have to do is lift one knee up with your hands at your side. (See the Playboy Bunnies training video on how to do the Captain Morgan pose below!) The NFL's quick reaction to the situation comes off Eagle player Brent Celek 'Captain Morgan' stance after a 11 yard touchdown catch. Since then the NFL learned that 'Captain Morgan' campaign was put out by the company to get players to strike the captain's pose.
NFL spokesman Greg Aiello told Yahoo! Sports; "The issue is that players are specifically prohibited under our policies from wearing, displaying, promoting or otherwise conveying their support of a commercially identified product during a game while they're on the field. Whether it's rum or soft drinks or any other commercial product, that type of promotion is prohibited." he Eagles received a 15-yard penalty quickly after the pose. Eagle's Jason Avant is also seen in the video helping Celek perfect his form. Fans are not happy; some are calling the two sellouts. According to reports, the campaign for the pose by 'Captain Morgan' was a deal with any player who got caught on camera doing the pose; the company would donate to the Gridiron Greats Assistance Fund, which is a fund that helps retired NFL players. Players could earn anywhere from $10,000 to $100,000 depending on situations. This plan though has been completely scrapped and anyone doing the pose is likely to get a fine and a team penalty.
