Rescheduling Interrupts

Hi,

I just launched powertop on my amd64 machine and the top wakeup cause is
 
  33,8% ( 92,9)      <kernel IPI> : Rescheduling interrupts

can someone tell me what this exactly means? How do I get rid of them?

Kernel 2.6.24-rc3
Dist: Gentoo
CPU: Amd64 X2
