Well, since you put it that way...
The Risc PC was launched in 1987. There are four companies
manufacturing compatibles at present. All offer excellent performance.
That's 17 years. The original machines are still very usable.
As for current developments in that scene, Risc OS has been converted
from 26-bit mode to 32-bit mode (akin to rewriting SMSQ/E to fully
account for instruction set changes in the Coldfire)
When you say it shouldn't compete, I know what you mean. But it does
have to remain "applicable" and "relevant" to attract new users and
turnover to maintain businesses to develop the products that make it,
well, applicable and relevant. It doesn't have to be "all that" but it
does have to be more than it is.
