The 250 instructions give, for example, "Transcribe..." at 2.5.1.4, so that's correct. > But where else do we apply it? They're listed under 1.8.1: serial numbering, dates in the 260, 490 series/subseries numbering, and the year in the 502. The instructions under 1.8.2 through 1.8.5 apply to these, including those on numbers expressed as words. > Is there a difference in 490$v and 830$v application? Regarding numbers spelled as words, they're alike, based on my reading. Both instructions on series/subseries numbering (490 $v: 2.12.9/2.12.17; 830 $v: 24.6.1.3) point back to 1.8, which means numbers-as-words get converted to numerals. > We are told at each element by number what other rules apply, but one > must then consult those rule numbers. It's all very fragmented. In the spirit of flipping back to chapter 1 of AACR2... But certainly not so far to walk in our present cataloging manual. -- Mark K.
