All are welcome to march with Black+White+Pink at this year's Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras Parade WHEN: This Saturday 3 March WHERE: 5PM Meet at the Archibald Fountain, Hyde Park. (up the Macquarie St end) Here props and parade passes will be distributed. There are only three hundred passes avaialble this year - so make sure you get there on time. We'll then go from there to the marshalling area in Elizabeth St The float number is B22. DRESS: Your choice of any combo of black, white or pink. Black+White+Pink is a group of volunteers from the lesbian, gay, transgender and bisexual community who have come together to ensure that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues remain on the agenda of the gay and lesbian community in New South Wales. This will be the 5th year Black+White+Pink have represented Indigenous issues in the Mardi Gars parade with last year's hugely successful "Sweties for a Treaty" entry being the largest float in the parade. The official theme for this year's Mardi Gras Parade is "Walk a Mile in Our Shoes". So B+W+P are appropriating the hugely successful "Sea of Hands" concept and marching as a "Sea of Feet: Walking the queer mile for reconciliation committed to justice" Many hours have already been spent in the Mardi Gras workshop making the props for this years entry! So much happened in 2001 that left many of us feeling glum about the prospects of achieving a real and lasting settlement of issues between Australian Indigenous peoples and non-Indigenous people - not to mention the other over-arching issues of race and racism that were manipulated for political gain in the Federal and State political spheres. It's never been more important for there to be a strong B+W+P presence in a Mardi Gras parade.
