Hello all/Nofri nwten, In checking my dictionaries and grammars for Egyptian, the phrase "wbt rnp.t" was, as Imad mentioned, used for New Year. As I mentioned in my last post, rnp.t is the exact same word as the phrase "ti rompi".
Wbt comes from the verb "wbi" which means "to open" - I'm rusty on my Egyptian grammar, but I'm kind of thinking the -t on the end of this verb may turn it into a noun (English as well as other languages have grammatical devices for doing this - "to play", but "the playER"). Thus, the Egyptian would translate as "The Opening of the Year" - a rather nice way of indicating the New Year. With that being said, I'm now curious to know what the Coptic word for "to open" or "opening" is - anyone care to answer?! Also, is "klom" the word for "crown"? It appears not to be a Greek borrowing, but it sounds a bit odd for an Egyptian word too; that 'kl' combination just doesn't sound Egyptian, but I don't know.
