Jeff--- Thanks! I tried this but my installation (which has been through three different laptops and three Mac OS upgrades) is pretty broken:
rpm -qal --> error: cannot open Packages(0) index using db3 - No such file or directory (2) error: cannot open Packages database in /var/local/lib/rpm at this point I'm not even sure if I actually installed any RPMs. Regardless, I need to get rid of any such packages and RPM itself.
