Dear SurinBhau,
A few days ago my sister-in-law knowing my interest in Sanskrit asked me the
etymology / VYUTPATTI of KAUSTUBHA the jewel which came out on churning the
ocean. Having never thought about it, I was completely flabbergasted. I could
not answer.
The word does appear like a TADDHITA to me.
Could you kindly tell me its VYUTPATTI.
Also please let me know the complete SHLOKA :: LAKSHMIH KAUSTABHA....
Recently the ShringeriMath has published a Bhrihad-Dhatu-Roopavali.
While going through it I noticed that there are several Dhatus from Prathama
Gana which are very much alive in Marathi but hardly used in Sanskrit. What
could be the reason?
Similar observation has been made on the net ( Utah Sanskrit ) by some Telugu
and Hindi mother-tounged people.
Finally, for the time being, what would be correct words for shoes and boots
for domestic conversation?

I would rather think it is 'samarUpa' or if used in a sentence "sAmarUpya"
because 'tadrUpa' would be a kind of simile and for that matter anything
that is prefixed with 'tad (he/she/it) '. No ?

nature). The repetition of motifs and figures forms an integral part of
symmetry. tAdrUpa represents this better than saushThavaM. I'll be
grateful for any suggestions.

I'm a parasite looking for info. The Celtic coircethairchuir means "right. 4.
break to pieces,turn" and is seen as "4-angled arrangement", the proper design
of 4 right angles. This is evident in Persian mihr temples with 4
corner-pillars on a square floor-plan, as also at the Tomb of Xerxes and Angkor
Wat. Is this the idea of Ss. symmetry and are there religious aspects to it?

Dear lists, a friend of mine remembers this stanza as the first of a stotra of
Sankara. I have not been able to find it anywhere in any of the strotras of
Sankara (or pseudo-Sankara), and am told by a Sanskritist here that it is in
fact not from a stotra that is commonly attributed to Sankara, but she did not
know where the stotra might be found. Does anyone know?

mukhAravinde vinivezayantam/
vaTasya patrasya puTe zayAnaM
bAlaM mukundaM manasA smarAmi//
