This means only that the actual design desired here is not final, and
will (hopefully) be discussed at the Ubuntu Developer Summit for 12.04.

Status in Unity:
   Triaged
Status in unity package in Ubuntu:
   Triaged

The actual status of the bug is just 'triaged'. The bug will not
actually be 'fixed' until these statuses change to 'Fix Released'.

The way Ayatana uses launchpad tasks is not always immediately
intuitive. Sorry for the confusion.

Evan

Correct, you need to look at the 'unity' project on bugs to track
implementation status. The good news on this one is that Jason is
currently targeting this bug for unity 4.26.0 SRU1 so hopefully it
will be fixed soon.

thanks for the bug report!

cheers,
John

Re: [Ayatana] Proposes to change launcher's behaviour with multiple windows

2011-10-19 Thread David
The problem I want to fix is that the launcher handles multiple windows of the
same program extremely poorly.

Open 2 terminal windows, then open a window on top of both of them, so both
windows are hidden (eg a typical multi-tasking environment), try opening 1 of
the windows back up through the launcher, and not a random window either, the
actual terminal window you want first time, it makes windows xp multi-tasking
look good.

It is a little difficult to know what the solution would be when you
expressly don't want to define what problem you want to fix.

I don't really understand the problem at all. Seems nice to me, though
it would be nice if you could tear an app out of a group, but that's a
different issue.

It is a confirmed bug, which is not present in Unity 2D, by the way. You
can find it here:

Title:
Launcher - Launcher does not always switch between last active windows

Status in Ayatana Design:
  Fix Committed
Status in Unity:
  Triaged
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
When switching between two applications (say firefox a libreoffice
writer) one of which has multiple windows, switching back does not
necessarily choose the last active window.

  To replicate:

  1. Open a libreoffice writer document and write 1 on the page.
  2. Open another and write 2
  3. Open firefox
  4. Go to the writer document and make sure you are working on the document with the
1 on the page.
  5. Click on the firefox launcher icon
  6. Click on the libreoffice writer icon

What happens: The libreoffice writer document labeled 2 is opened
What should happen: The libreoffice writer document labeled 1 is opened

This becomes very annoying when trying to quickly switch between 2
windows, as I have to double click the writer icon and open the
  correct window.

Subject: [Ayatana] Proposes to change launcher's behaviour with multiple
windows

(Assuming 'launcher' is the name of the taskbar on the left...):

Try this:
Open three explorer windows on different folders and a web browser.
Select one of the explorer windows.
Click on the web browser icon on the launcher.
Click on the explorer icon on the launcher.
Try this several times.

You'll notice that all explorer windows are brought to top and most
likely the last window your were at is not the one that is active.
It also, sometimes, gives focus to a window that is below the others and
their order is random.

In my opinion, every icon that has multiple windows should work as a
stack, popping up the most recently used window from that group, one at
a time instead of the whole group.

BTW, I'm new to this list and apologize if this subject has been
addressed before.

Re: [Ayatana] Proposes to change launcher's behaviour with multiple windows

2011-09-27 Thread Stefanos A.
2011/9/27 matt m.richardson.1...@hotmail.co.uk

I have already submitted a bug for the fact that the last active window
is not necessarily the one which receives focus when switching between
 applications with multiple windows.
 https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/854643

I agree that bringing the whole group up can be annoying. Particularly
when trying to drag and drop between applications.
 For example:
I have two nautilus windows, one occupying the left half of the screen
(say a removable device), one occupying the right (say my documents
folder). I also have a firefox window maximised, but behind the two
nautilus windows. I want to drag a file from the removable device into
my documents folder and then upload it to a website by drag and drop. I
drag and drop from the removable device to documents fine. But now, I
click on firefox, which covers both nautilus windows. So I click on
nautilus, which brings up both windows, covering the firefox window. It
means I must either move or close one of the nautilus windows to achieve
 what I want.

This is a very real annoyance that I encounter all the time when working
with files and multiple windows. Copy paste and file attachements can
quickly become a pain.
