Hello everyone,

This year during bike to work week, we are planning to try something new
to encourage bike commuting to work. The idea to have a "bike bus" to
allow new cyclists the opportunity to ride into work with a group. What we
are looking for is experienced bike commuters to volunteer to be the "bus
driver". You may want to look at the following URL for information about
the "bike bus"- http://galifrey.triode.net.au/bikebus/index.shtml.

What that volunteers will need to do is the following:

        1) Map out your usual commute route and record the total time it takes you
to get to work and the approximate time you reach good stopping points to
pick up new riders.

        2) The driver will be responsible for leading the group and calling out
potholes etc. In addition, this is not a critical mass ride, so all
traffic laws must be obeyed(no running red lights or blowing stop signs).

An example of the bike bus route is the following:(This is the route I
will use)

        1) 7:30AM Old Sauk and High Point
        2) 7:35AM Old Sauk and Gammon
        3) 7:40AM Old Sauk and Old Middleton
        4) 7:45AM Old Sauk and Whitney Way
        5) 7:50AM University Ave and Segoe
        6) 7:55AM University Ave and Midvale
        7) 8:00AM University Ave and Franklin
        8) 8:10AM University and Randall

If anyone is interested in being a "bikebus driver" during BTWW, send me
an email with your route and times, and I will forward the email to the
BTWW webmaster so that we can put the information on the BTWW web page. We
especially need volunteers from parts of the city where bike access is
difficult. The northwest part of the city(Sherman avenue) and the far
east/far west and south outside the beltline are all places where bike
access is becoming more difficult and novice cyclists would benefit by
riding with a group.

        Thanks,

        Richard Raphael
