I staked out Scofield Rd. in Lansing tonight, but didn't find any Short-eared
Owls. I had one flock of 450 Canadas, 24 M. Doves and 29 Whitetails grazing.

The viewing conditions were perfect for most of our time. Dave took the west

I met Susan on Hammond Hill Friday after her foray to Park Pre. and we had a
similar experience; silence. The frogs did start up for us finally. I always
wonder what makes Owls especially vocal or not. Of course my pondering mostly

Hi all,
I walked the fields across from Dyce Lab looking for Vesper Sparrows. I
didn't see or hear any, but it was very windy. I did flush 8, invisible,
WILSON'S SNIPE. They were directly across from Dyce Lab at the north edge of
the bare field. Four of them flew north and I didn't see
eurasian wigeon swamp south of martens tract. Dave Nicosia.

My understanding on George Rd. pond is that the beaver dam that created it was
to be removed. The Dryden village is in the process of restoring the railroad
bed to a walking trail.
If someone could verify this please do. I think we may have lost a terrific
birding spot.

Jetty woods this afternoon. I had views or three, but I think there were more
in the flowering treetops. An adult Bald Eagle was in the trees with a very

nest findings. While birding Saturday I found an Orchard Oriole nest at Salt
Point; park at the Y, looking straight down the road toward the lake from the

I spent most of the day around the marsh with Brad Carlson, Kendra Carter, Mike
and Joann Tetlow without finding the Curlew Sandpiper.
I agree with Brad that it still could be there. We did do a lot of scanning but
the distances are great and the light is iffy. When a Northern Harrier put the

The grass mat at Hog Hole is getting very nice, especially if you don't
have a scope. There were a handful of Least Sandpipers, one Semi-palmated
Sandpiper, five Spotted Sandpipers, one Killdeer and lots of Song Sparrows
acting like shorebirds, around Noon today.

I spent a hour at Treman Marina after work. The two juvenile Ospreys
eventually came back to the nest loudly begging for at least 20 mins. The adult
was cruising the shoreline, but never responded. I guess they thought there's
always hope for a home delivered meal if you're loud enough.
I had my first obvious migrant warblers today in the front yard hedge. One each
of Canada, Chestnut-sided and A. Redstart with a couple Chickadees. I know
warblers have been flying over us at night, but it's nice to see some in the
flesh feathers. I'm excited for some good fall flocks.

had 2 Black-bellied Plovers and 2 Wilson's Phalaropes but no Buff-breasted or

with Dominic Sherony. We eventually found 6 A. Golden-Plover
Douglas Robinson has reported a Ruddy Turnstone at Knox-Marcellus Marsh, from
Towpath Road, today. I don't have any more details, but wanted to pass it on.
He saw both species of Phalaropes and Plover. No Buff-breasted found.

Late this afternoon while birding the pond on Freese Rd. I had one
flyover raptor headed southeast . It came in low behind me, about treetop
level, so I only had a quick going away view, but the strong wingbeats, direct
flight, and pointed wings make me believe it was a Peregrine. It

Warblers. I broke with routine and walked in on the RR tracks at
Lindsay-Parson's Preserve to the blue trail.
Two Worm-eating Warblers were on the back of the blue trail feeding low and

I decided to chase the Connecticut warblers this morning as I opted not too
yesterday late day. I never hold out hope to find these guys after reports, but
I thought I would have nothing to lose as it might be birdie otherwise. Stuart

I too downloaded the app. which looks good, but I noticed the new messages come
in as part of a continuing conversation so don't trigger the new text alert
on my iPhone. I'm not sure what's up with that yet.

As I was studying the two Ibis at Benning Marsh around 6:15pm a photographer
arrived, wiggled his bulk up through the sunroof of the van, slapped down a
sandbag , hauled up his giant lens and managed to spook the Ibis away to the
west. I didn't see them again , but maybe they will be back in
I had a late appointment in Aurora this afternoon so I made a quick
stop at the boathouse parking lot. One scan across the water not blocked by
tree branches yielded 58 C. Loons. I thought I saw a Red-throated Loon in the
distance, but wasn't sure because of the poor view.

There is a Ring-necked Pheasant at the Swan Pen. Has anyone else seen one here
? This is definitely a new Ithaca bird for me.

Friday afternoon I spent time in the Interlaken area looking for
Short-eared Owls. While I wasn't successful finding them there was a
spectacular late afternoon Snow Goose flight. Canadas and Snows had been moving
all afternoon in small groups, but by dusk the numbers really picked up.
I went up the lake today as I missed the Snowy Owl cocktail party
Friday afternoon in the mucklands, but held out hope they would still be there.
After much scanning I did find one Snowy Owl sitting in the corn at the far
north side of the fields about center. It was partially hidden
I to applaud the quick activism, but I want to point out that the Port
Authority's responsibility is safety for planes and passengers. I doubt anyone
losing a loved one in a plane crash would be comforted knowing it was caused by
a cute Snowy Owl instead of the more common Canada Goose. Boston
