At 1 pm today, there was a flock of about 100 RUSTY BLACKBIRDS hanging out in
the woods just past the end of the Podell Boardwalk at Sapsucker Woods. This is
the wooden walk to the south of the visitor's center. They were foraging among
the leaves in the pools of water and also sitting

3:15 pm - I called the visitor center at Montezuma. The fire is just about
out, the drive is closed and the visitor center will close shortly. The fire
was in the cattails in the main pool area.

but I did see two WILSON's WARBLERS, one in each flock. The darkness of the
black cap was different between the two, so I'm confident they were different
birds.

There was a Northern Shrike on Ellis Hollow Creek Rd., on the telephone wire
just east of the intersection with Turkey Hill Rd. at 12:33 this afternoon
(Thursday). I believe somebody reported a possible shrike at that location last

This evening (2/23) two flocks of several hundred Red-winged Blackbirds flew

At Benning marsh today around 2 pm there were 10 greater yellowlegs, 2 lesser
yellowlegs, 1 snipe, 1 killdeer and 2 pectoral sandpipers.

I know the chicks will drop down from the box when they fledge, and it
seems an awfully long way, with a hard landing at the bottom, and it also seems
pretty far from the pond but I hope they make it!
