The Austin Public Library applied for this grant and has received it! 

 

We will be placing these wonderful prints in the Faulk Central Library and
the Spicewood Springs Branch Library when they arrive in the Fall. 

 

We have placed articles alerting teachers to the opportunity to prepare
curriculum over the summer months through the Austin Independent School
District social studies teacher's newsletter and in the ACCESS to Learning,
Inc. newsletter going out this month to teachers and other cultural heritage
institutions in our area. We will continue to alert our teachers (and thank
our Federal Legislators) to this opportunity to bring American History to
life through art. At the Art Institute, co-sponsored by ACCESS to Learning,
Inc. , held Sunday and Monday at the Blanton Art Museum in Austin, art
teachers from around the CTLS area were also alerted to the fact that the
Austin Public Library has received this grant. We want this effort to
succeed for all of us! In addition, the social studies curriculum department
at AISD examined the on-line Picturing America Teacher Resource Guide for me
and pronounced it as "excellent."

 

This program is promoted by Loraine Roy, current President of the American
Library Association and Austin, Texas, resident. I can also help anyone who
needs help with this grant opportunity.

I ran across this program from the NEH today while looking at their website.
They have given art reproductions to over 26,000 schools & libraries across
the US and are gearing up for another round of grant applications in August.
Related instructional materials are included; the art is grouped around
themes such as Democracy, Courage, Landscapes, etc. Many are well-known and
loved works of American art.

 

Parochial schools and consortia of home schools may apply.  If your town has
a local school of this type that never seems to be able to qualify for
anything, this is their big chance. Please pass the info along to them; you
may make a friend for life! ;-)

few CTLS libraries and several public schools in our system have gotten
