Besides Chapter Info is currently available only in Alphabetical Index,

Let me know it this is the way to go (e.g. using Chapter Info way and

Yes. This sounds good.

One more thing about ODF: it seems that the Illustration Index and its
derived indexes lack the chapter information completely (ODF 1.0: 7.4.2).

I discussed our proposed change to the OpenDocument file format with our
ODF experts of the OASIS ODF TC, namely Michael Bauer and Lars
Oppermann. They support our change. Thus, we can enhance the ODF element
text:index-entry-chapter. And you're right, that we have to include this
index entry into all needed index types.
This change of the OpenDocument file format have to be proposed to the
OASIS ODF TC. I can do this, because I'm already a regulary member of
this TC.
When we want to include the enhancement for the next feature release of
OpenOffice.org, namely OOo 2.3, we should propose this change to the
OpenDocument file format for ODF version 1.2. The deadline for new
proposals for this version is mid/end of February. Thus, we have to
hurry. I propose, that I will write this proposal, discuss it with you
and then post it to the OASIS ODF TC. We will be the
authors/contributers of this proposal.
In the meanwhile, I propose that you take care of writing the
OpenOffice.org specification for this enhancement.

Sounds good, I'm going to work out the demonstration patch, I'll use it
for OOo spec writing and discussion.

In the meantime I'll wait for the ODF enhancement you'll be writing.

One more thing, there is issue 14725 [1] that deals with what seems the
same topic, even though it refers to 1.1 OOo version: it seems to me
that if issue 53420 is solved with a better numbering mode, issue 14725
is solved as well.

well, I got the idea from SRC680_m201:sw/source/core/doc/doctxm.cxx:1905
the one that's currently working for index entry line formats (the code
used to expand the Chapter Info token put into index line with Chapter
info pushbutton, if I'm not wrong)

Calling of is in general Ok. But,
if the "TOXsource-Node" isn't of type , it's somehow not
correct. It works, because in this special case this parameter isn't
used. Please stay tuned, I will provide you an appropriate patch for
this call.

Your solution works, except the load and save, but I think, we should
choose a more flexible solution. This opinion comes from your
suggestion for the OpenDocument file format.
Your suggestion to enhance the index entry "chapter" (ODF element
text:index-entry-chapter) by adding the missing value "plain-number"
for attribute text:display and adding attribute text:outline-level as
these are for chapter field sounds good. I will discuss this with our
ODF experts. If they agree, we have to make a proposal to the OASIS
ODF TC to include this change in the next ODF version.
This means your proposed core boolean IsPrefixPageNum results in an
additional index entry. Thus, why do not provide the user the
possiblility to include such a index entry on its own in an arbitray
position. Not only as a prefix to the page number entry. Then we
haven't got the problem in the ODF to group the enhanced chapter entry
with the page number entry together. In this case we also doesn't have
add extra code to make the separator configurable. The already
existing button "Chapter Info" already provides the chapter index
entry to the user - the outline-level attribute has to be added.

What do you think? I think you could implement this.

Of course the chapter number follows the format chosen in the
relevant page format (e.g. is A if the chapter numbering chosen was
alphabetical).

What do you mean by "the chapter number follows the format chosen in
the relevant page format"?
We think the format of the chapter number should be equal to the
format, which is given in the Outline Numbering dialog (menu Tools -
Outline Numbering).

that's it, the 'A-1' in the example above means that's the page 1 of the
chapter which has level 1 in outline numbering and the numbering format
is chosen to be literals A,B etc... by means of the menu command you
mentioned.

My questions:

Should I provide some kind of specification for it?

Yes, that would be great.

good, I'll ask when the time comes what version: wiki or the odt one

Would I be able to work directly on it (e.g. CWS and the likes)?

Of course you can.

I implemented issue 12626
(http://qa.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=12626#desc24) as a
developer, so I know how it works and I have CVS access.

I currently build OOo on Debian GNU/Linux (of the 'etch' flavor).

For a CWS at least two platform builds are needed - Windows and
Linux/UNIX. There exist OOo buildbots for several platforms.

for GNU/Linux there is no problem, it's my development system of choice.
I build under Windows as well, though I have only a notebook with dual
booting hence when I build with Windows I get stuck for at least 24 hours.

While I was waiting for the answer, I had a glance to the ODF 1.0 spec
were it deals with index (7.12.1, IIRC), I wasn't able to figure out how
to make persistent (in the ODF format) the choice of the chapter
numbering (simple one without subchapters) in the index source.

So far I was able to generate the index, but I haven't yet figured out
how to save the modified index source information in the ODT file, I
save only the generated index (the body).

As soon as I understand something more, I'll be back.

BTW questions on XML and ODF OOo implementation should go to
[email protected], right?

Yes.
But, questions, which strongly belong to a certain OOo application, can
also be asked in the mailing list of this application.

Regards, Oliver.

Re: [sw-discussion] about issue 53420 (prefix chapter number to page number in indexes)

2007-01-09 Thread Oliver-Rainer Wittmann - Software Engineer - Sun Microsystems

Hi Giuseppe,

I've discussed the issue with AMA - see our comments inline

Giuseppe Castagno wrote:

Hi all,

I'm working on issue 53420 because I need it for a manual I'm writing.

I'm almost finished and I have a couple questions, I hope this is the
right ML.

Status:
I'm implementing it as a prefix to page numbers index wide rather than
on the token row (where the page number lives normally). I intended it
as a page number attribute, so in Alphabetical index it is treated
correctly for all pages, and not only for the first one as it would be
if I had chosen to add a token on the index format row.

Currently it works but for the separator between the chapter number and
the page number, it is currently fixed to '-' (hyphen) only. I plan to
add a edit item to the index properties dialog box to provide a mean of
changing it.
The possibility to let the user choose the separator between the chapter
number and the page number would be good

The code I'm working on is from tag m197.

Example of generated indexes are:

...
2 Preparazione2-1
2.1. Generale2-1
...

8 Collegamento a Internet 8-1
8.1. Modem ADLS 8-1
8.2. Router/firewall 8-1
8.2.1. Generale 8-1
8.2.2. WiFi 8-1
...
Appendice A Note di Installazione per Sarge (Debian 3.1rc3) A-1
A.1. Inizio configurazione rete (network). A-5
A.2. Partizionare il diskA-7
A.3. Installazione di GrubA-7

...

Atest
  Atest indice1-1p., 2-1p., 3-1, 3-3p., 4-4, 6-6

  ATest indice2-2, 3-2pp.
Printer
   CupsD-2
Stampante HP1317
   Installazione in Gnu/Linux (Debian)5-5, 6-9,

...

Of course the chapter number follows the format chosen in the relevant
page format (e.g. is A if the chapter numbering chosen was alphabetical).

Yes, this is the right list. Until today most Writer developers have
been on vacation during the Christmas and New Year break. Please stay
tuned a little bit, we have to read and discuss the issue and then will
come back to your questions.

Ciao,
Mathias

Please don't reply to "[EMAIL PROTECTED]".
I use it for the OOo lists and only rarely read other mails sent to it.
