Re: [Eug-lug] Ignite Eugene!

2008-03-05 Thread Ben Barrett
I suspect that some of the Smart-Ups group would want to be involved,
although Ingite is tech-heavy in my experience...
from the article:

Oregonian: What kind of people and ideas did you expect?

Foster: A lot more software.

Eschright: We got a lot of really fun, bizarre concepts. You know,
unicycling. Numa Numa dance. Keeping chickens. We just mixed them right in
with the technology presentations.

Bancroft: We wanted a mantra. What values are we really after here? It
basically came down to, "Share burning ideas." We intentionally didn't limit
it to just technology. That's good, because it's taken us in directions we
never would have imagined.

cheers to this!

The last is by far the easiest; but I will make a dent in the first by

present.

How about it?

If possible I'd like to help out - facilitate, run errands, fetch coffee

Some interesting links looking towards Ignite Portland:

They got newspaper coverage...
http://www.oregonlive.com/special/index.ssf/2008/01/ignite_portland.html

How can we set up submissions and what to do if we get more than 1
evening can handle? For example, Ignite PDX 2 wanted 14 and they go
54. To be fair we should have a process determined ahead of time...

The Portland Ignite used OpenOffice on a MacBook. So long as we can
robustly auto advance every 15 seconds, I don't think it matters too
much.

You're not that old, Ben. I've written presentations in LaTeX.

But generally I prefer to write my presentations in raw PostScript. :)

Nice...

Looks like we have four people so far volunteering to help organize
the event:

Larry Price
Marc Baber
Mike Cherba
Kevin Kenan

Did I miss anyone? Is anyone else interested in helping to organize?
You don't have to organize in order to submit presentations.

2008-03-04 Thread [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Excellent information on how the Legion of Tech organizes events in
Portland is available at:

   http://legionoftech.org

They made LoT into a non profit organization to help with liability
and other event organizing and sponsorship logistics. Also, I see that
LoT runs both the Ignite and BarCamp events in Portland...
