I solved the water situation with a Pioneed water fountain. They love the
water movement, it filters the water and if yoiu add a few ice cubes to bob
around, they really like it. They drink much more than they did with water
bowls.

2017-03-16 Thread Lorrie
Hi Robert,

No problem about the joke. I was also joking when I said your remark
almost gave me a heart attack.

Re: FOOD - None of my 13 rescued cats like the grain free foods
either. They also don't like Friskies canned, but I worry about too
much dry food. It easier to feed, but they need more moisture so they
get Fancy Feast once a day (expensive with 13 cats) but thats all
they want. The rest of the time they get dry food, but I cannot free
feed as I have 4 who are overweight. So they all get fed individually
and I've discovered many of them like a bit of water on their dry
food, which is good because this way I'm sure they are getting enough
liquids.

As for myself I eat as healthy as I can. Junk food actually turns my
stomach now as does fried food. I've been eating this way for about
30 years now, and I really love veggies, whole grains, and very little
meat. What meat I eat is always braised or baked. It must be working
as my blood work is perfect at age 84, but I still got arthritis and
it's VERY painful. I figure I'll live to be 100 and be in pain the
entire time :-( Well I have to outlive all these cats so I'll deal
with it.

2017-03-11 Thread dlgegg
I was not realy going to report you for cruelty, you are in this group so I
know better. Just giving you a rough time.
re:food
I have a rough time getting my pride to eat canned food. I mix it with hot
water to make it smell better. They drink the broth and leave the meat. Can't
figure that one out. They do not like fish flavored food, not even when I fix
fresh wild caught salmon or tuna.
Harley especially wants to eat everything I eat, it just might be something he
likes. I have to cook for all of us, take out for him and then season with
garlic for myself. So I stick with Blue Buffalo duck, red meat or rabbit.
They attack the bag before I can get it open. I used to feed Hills Science
Diet until they were one of the companies caught in the big food scandal that
was killing off dogs, cats and some seniors who could not afford regular food.
Plus it had grains and most of my pride are allergic to them, especially soy.
They were constantly vomiting as soon as they ate it. A waste of expensive
food. I also have 2 water fountains (one in each end of the house) and they
are now drinking more water, especially when I add a few ice cubes that bounce
around in the water. We like to watch them and try to catch them.
Since they eat the food, it is cheaper in the long run because it does not go
to waste. The only time anyone vomits is when Harley pounce on them right after
eating. His mission in life is to aggrevate everyone in the house. He is the
only one who goes outside, catches a mouse, schrew or vole and then spends his
time sleeping on the deck. Dee and Annie go out for a sunny nap which is good
because they get their vitamin d. Homie, a former feral has taken a sudden
dislike to outside. I think she has a good thing going and does not want to
loose it. On sunny days I make her go out with me for her vitamin k.

I also subscribe to keeping grains to a minimum since cats are obligate

my family had the most cats ( when I was young) there WERE no such

I buy the best food I can afford ( and that they will eat) and hope for

[Felvtalk] Food and Nutrition for FELV

2016-12-21 Thread Sherri Godschalk
Good morning everyone. I have kind of a general question here for you all.
I am walking a tight rope here for my FELV + Bogey as far as to what to feed
her. She is hungry and is eating but now we are facing some rising liver
enzymes so I think I need to do more than just get her to eat .

She is not a big wet food eater. She will eat some each day, and normally
just Fancy Feast and just a bit of it. If her whole diet was that, she would
starve. I can get her to take a couple of tablespoons a day of Hills AD and
ID but I have to hand feed it. She likes kibble. Anymore I am not sure what
brand is a good nutritional cat food. I have learned that kibble is much
harder for their body to break down, thus stressing their liver but I have
got to keep her eating because of the liver and jaundice issues I am dealing
with. (she is dealing with)

So I am curious what you feed your cat and if you use any supplements. Also,
if a kibble is watered down and pureed, is it easier for them to digest? I
started adding Hills Sensitive Stomach Egg and Rice and she likes it and is
supposedly easier for them to digest. But is it a good food?

Thanks for your opinions.

Sherri

I just wrote about CoQ10 dosage.
Apple cider vinegar, start with a drop or two in water, slowly build up to
more over time. AC Vinegar is a miracle food! I hate plain water, so I
always put a dash of ACV into the bottle - great thirst quencher and great
for arthritis and so much more
