Hi Jen, The only problem with staying at that vet, is once you actually need Zander’s Protocol, it will take some time to obtain the Winstrol, and find a vet willing to prescribe it for you, along with the Doxy and Prednisone. Re: [Felvtalk] Good news
Hi Kerry, I remember you from way back. So glad to see you out there and hear your story. I think I took in my first FELV cats in 2001 - Mr. Black Kitty and Calawalla Banana Booboo. Mr. Black Kitty was a double positive, and lived about a year. He was SOO skinny, but an energetic, sweet kitty. Calawalla was a calico kitten, maybe 6 mo old or so. I kept them in my living room, and one of the first things I did was put tape on the bottom of the door so that they couldn't sniff noses with my other cats. My vet told me that wasn't necessary - the virus only lived a few seconds when it hit the air, and was very fragile. I fortunately found this group, and read up on FELV and learned more. So within a couple of years, I decided that for me, it was time to mix the FELVs with the other cats, and have been doing that ever since. Calawalla died when she was about 2 yrs old. I had acquired another FELV for her - MIttens - who died died a little later. I sometimes wonder what subgroup/strain they were, and what my present FELV's are. I've got a great picture of them on a bed with my non-FELV, Shakespeare, just chillin and looking great. Anyhow, great to hear from you - Happy Holidays to you, Kerry, sending love and hugs back at ya - Gloria On Dec 25, 2010, at 12:06 PM, Kerry MacKenzie wrote: Dear all It's been a few years since I last posted. Re: [Felvtalk] good news about the kitten
I strongly suggest that you get some Feliway spray (maybe from your vet??) I have had wonderful luck with itincluding with a full grown cat who had been through lots of traumas and was forced, very much against her will, to live with me (Daddy's death, charges in the house [ furniture moved, people in and out etc ], Mom's physical problems etc--no abuse unless you ask Kitty). Bach's Rescue Remedy in the water of your little one and the dogs should help too. Put clothes, pillow cases or something that smells strongly of you in the carrier then, later, rub the dogs with a cloth and put near him and something that smells strongly of him near the dogs. Everyone needs to learn how the others smell. Honest. I had a stuffed cat that I put with Copper and Thomas (they were younger and definitely feral). Just something to curl up with. Copper is very independent but, a year later, Thomas still cuddles with me or with Copper when he can. It is reassuring. You have done good. You are in for a very rewarding experience. Re: [Felvtalk] good news about the kitten
Hi, Kathryn. You're right - these folks are the best ever! When I introduced my very inquisitive, rambunctious, 75 lb. dog to the litter of kittens I rescued last fall, I had him on a collar and lead, and put him on a down, stay a lot. The kittens had been here for about 3 weeks, in their own room, and he was used to their scent and knew something very special was behind the door. He was very happy to finally see what it was. We took it slowly and all of the kittens ended up being dog lovers! [Felvtalk] Good News - Successful Multi-Cat House!
I recently had Brady re-tested for felv, 3 1/2 months after we brought our felv+ kitten into the same household. Brady tested negative on the snap test! The vet told us as long as we keep up with his boosters, he should be fine. We will not test again for felv. Brady was 1 year 3 months when he began living with our felv+ kitten. Brady did have a felv vaccination when he was a kitten. They have separate food bowls, but they share everything else. They also like to groom each other (which I try to stop when I see it, but I'm sure they do it when I am not around) I very glad we decided to keep them both together! ___ Felvtalk mailing list Felvtalk@felineleukemia.org http://felineleukemia.org/mailman/listinfo/felvtalk_felineleukemia.org

Some of you may remember my FeLV+ kitty, Buzz, had anemia a couple of months ago. His red blood cell level was down to 8% and the replacement vet gave him two days to live. Because of the advise of people from this list I demanded he be put on Doxycycline, and when my regular vet came back he also put him on prednesone. His blood levels have been steadily rising since then. He finished the Doxy and two weeks ago we started to back off on the Prednesone when his red blood level was at 32%. He was just tested again and his level is at 38%. I feel like he is a miracle kitty! We hear so many of the very sad stories on this list that it feels good to report something happy.
