Re: [Felvtalk] LTCI injections ??

2017-01-20 Thread Katherine K.
I used LTCI when my 11 yo was first diagnosed. I believe it helped bring
him back from a very low point (anemia, anorexia, etc). He stayed on it for
about a year, then once he was stable I felt it wasn't worth the
continued cost, so we stopped.

I have a 7 month old kitten, Joe.had an eye enucleation in Sept. tested
NEG-FELV. But.due to lethargy and the eye removal site not looking right.I
took him to my REGULAR vet. He has now tested POSITIVE-FELV and is extremely
anemic. He is eating well and drinking. Getting laser on eye surgical site,
BUT I would love to to try the LTCI injections for him. Has anyone here tried
them ?

Thanks,

Hi,

The LTCI injection that Aggie gets are given in her hind leg area. Not up on
the medical lingo--but it looks just like a regular vaccination type shot. It
is not given intravenously, or under the skin like fluids. Hope this helps.

Perhaps there are different protocols for different situations, but when we
were giving our little ones LTCI, we were directed by our vet (who had
spoken with the lab techs with LTCI) to give it sub-q.

hi Andy,

great, thanks that does help.  Sounds like it's intravenous, aka in the
vein, so I would not be permitted/able to do that.  Things like the pepcid
or sub q fluids are in the skin, so the pet parents are allowed to do these,
if they are willing.

Guess that crosses Whimsy off the list since taking him to the vet gives him
flashbacks!

thanks, again, Andy!  Aggie is lucky to have you.

Shannon

Re: [Felvtalk] LTCI injections

2011-01-03 Thread Andy Domek

Hi Shannon,

It isn't intravenous at all. When I said it wasn't under the skin like like
fluids, I just meant that it wasn't done between shoulder blades. It is
usually given in her hind flank. Here is the info from the product insert:

Lymphocyte T-Cell Immunomodulator is administered
by subcutaneous injection of 1 ml upon diagnosis of
the presence of FIV or FeLV disease.

I know a great many people who give the shot themselves--and it isn't into the
veins.

Sorry I was so darn confusing! Hopefully the second time is the charm!

oh wow! thanks, Andy, sorry I misunderstood!  this sure could be something I
could do then for Whimsy.  Also, for my FIV boy perhaps. thanks for helping me
understand!
