Ok, worked through some of it, but pretty badly. pygobject:2 needs -introspection to be able to slot :2 and :3 on the same system. Ok done. However gnome 3's fallback mode gnome-applets needs pygobject:2 WITH introspection. Ok fine, I'll build gnome-base/gnome -fallback. Problem badly solved.
