thought this would allow me to write to the device if its sticky bits
are set to 0664. This is however not the case. This makes me think
that any edit to /etc/udev/rules.d/xx-libsane.rules is simply a
workaround. I am thinking the bug is in HPLIP.

I updated to net-print/hplip-3.10.2-r4 same fault occurs...ran hp-setup
as root. Perhaps it is time to escalate this as a bug? Any opinion?

Environment) tools for printing are not the best because of
inconsistency in layout and authentication problems. My suggestion is
to open up your web browser and use localhost:631 in the address bar to
access CUPS and do it

Discovered something: if the usb flash drive is mounted with nautilus,
there is no problem with permissions. If mounted from within console,
and mounted to /mnt/disk, issues with permissions begin.

I am currently using 64-Bit Gentoo and when shut down is selected from
the menu in gnome, sometimes the computer flickers to the login screen
then shuts down, other times it just shuts down. Why is it behaving
