Re: Lyx 2.5.0 crash on mac book pro arm cpu

2026-03-23 Thread Roland Clarke via lyx-users
I also have exactly the same problem on an intel mac (iMac 2020). It
generates the crash report if any window is open, but if all windows are
closed there is not crash report on exiting Lyx (2.5.0).

I also have Lyx installed on Ubuntu, and something similar appears to
happen when I close Lyx. There is no crash report, but the system seems
to hang for about 5-10 seconds, as if it is cleaning something up.

Thanks,

Roland

Thanks a lot for testing, Anders! Please let us know if anything else
seems off, since we may recommend this workaround to others.

I don't know what customizations we do on macOS. In particular, I don't
know if the menu entries are the same. But let's give it a try.

 First, exit LyX.

Then, locate your user directory. Inside that directory, if there is not
a directory called "ui" then create one. If there is a directory called
ui and it is not empty, let me know what else is in there (it might
 cause problems).

Then, put the attached file inside that user ui directory. The only
thing I changed was the File > Exit entry.

Now start LyX and open a document and go to File > Exit and see if it
 works now.

 Thanks for testing!

Thanks, then I understand.
Creating the ui directory in /Users/user_name and putting the file there
worked. No crash message.

Hmm, I think you want the ui directory inside the App Content, see attached. Or
am I mistaken

LyX looks for these files in three locations: The user directory, a
system directory, and even a third place I can't remember. In that
order. So if you want to customize something just for you, you can put
it into your user directory.

My guess is that the location you found is the system wide LyX
installation directory. If you feel like changing it there, that should
do the trick also. First backup the original files though so it's easy
to restore them if anything is amiss.

I' not sure if it is still interesting.
I tried executing "command-sequence buffer-close-all; lyx-quit" from the
Mini-buffer on my Macbook M2 Tahoe 26.3.1 via Control-x. Result with LyX2.5.0:
Command disabled, no other reaction.
The same command with LyX2.4.4 works fine.Bini--

Thanks for trying! Well dang, I expected that to work. If anyone else
can try that command-sequence on macOS, that would be helpful. I still
think it could be a nice workaround to the bug (if it works, we can
change the menu to run that command). But if the command-sequence
doesn't work on its own, that good be a different (or related?) bug.

The first time I tried it, it only closed the open buffer on my document. I
then quit manually but indeed I did not get the crash window. However, now
when I try to enter the command in the command buffer, I get a "command
disabled" message. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Still getting the reported behavior.

Similar experience here with LyX 2.5.0 on an M4 Mac mini running 26.3.1.
However, it only happens if I quit (via LyX → Quit LyX) with a LyX window open,
whether or not a file is loaded. If I first close any open LyX windows and then
quit via LyX → Quit LyX, I do not get the crash report window. Other than this,
no issues with 2.5.0.

After some more checking, I agree with Chris.

Ah this is very intersting! Perhaps this is already known, but if not,
your observation gives an idea for a quick workaround (and for narrowing
in on the root cause).

Chris, Can you open some documents and then open the command buffer (I
think with alt+x or command + x maybe on mac?). This will open a small
toolbar at the bottom of your screen. Enter the following in the toolbar
and press Enter:

  command-sequence buffer-close-all; lyx-quit

Does it quit successfully, without crash, if you do it this way?

Lyx 2.5.0 crash on mac book pro arm cpu

2026-03-11 Thread David Halpern via lyx-users
Hi,

When I close LyX, either by just closing the window or through the
menu LyX >> Quit LyX, the LyX program stops after a short delay. This
is then followed by
a crash report. This happens every single time I use Lyx 2.5.0. I
have a Macbook pro M5 running OS 26.3.1.
